I AM, cross stitch, 370x170mm, 2012

From a child I assumed that I would have children one day. This long felt belief has become part of who I am, part of my identity. As an infertility survivor I know I wont have children, but I still can’t believe it. I find myself in an identity crises, or have I opened up a window to self-definition? Female subjectivity?

I AM, cross stitch, 370 x 170 mm, 2012.

I AM comes from an investigation into female identity, how it is defined by society and how women are responding to this definition. Depicting the text ‘I AM’ with floral embellishments, using pinks, purples, yellows and greens as you would find them in the garden. The swirling font has been obscured by the floral decoration, confounding the proclaimed statement.
